What is the difference between fixed annuities and variable annuities?


In short, both annuities are sold by life insurance companies. The one huge difference is a fixed annuity is fully guaranteed by the issuing life insurance company and is tied to the very conservative investment side of the issuing life insurance company. On the other hand, variable annuities are generally tied to mutual funds and are not guaranteed.
