Who makes and administers an annuity?


Insurance companies invented annuities and they remain the only one to administer them. Any licensed insurance agent can sell annuities, even an insurance agent at the local bank. Up until 1970 annuities were used strictly for guaranteed pay-outs, but in recent years they have replaced low interest rate C.D.s because of good interest rates and the many tax favored qualities that they enjoy.
